Domaine Du Théron

This charming vineyard was given a new lease of life when, in 1997, it was taken over by a Belgian industrialist and lover of French wines. After a 40-year career at the helm of a multinational company founded by his father, Vic Pauwels decided to trade the world of electrical transformers for a new life making quality red wines to suit all budgets. In doing so he fulfilled a long-held dream, and built a new chai (winery) which is among the most modern in the Lot region.

To assist him in his endeavours, he hired a team of enthusiastic young employees led by Henri-Jean Crassat, an ambitious, locally-born maître de chai (chief winemaker) who has perfected his knowledge in various châteaux of the Cahors appellation.

The combination of tradition and technology and the marriage of the Malbec and Merlot grape varieties contribute to the success of the vineyard's two vintages - Domaine du Théron and Le Théron - both offering glowing, smooth wines with plenty of fruit and body. The wines can be tasted in the fine setting of the old, renovated winery or on the shady terraces of the Domaine which afford spectacular views over the Lot valley.
